There are different ways of defining 'Southern state,' but no matter how you slice it, Southern states are doing ok, the Northeast and Midwest is doing poorly, and the rest are largely treading water.
Liberals seem incapable of understanding the reason why red states like Mississippi and Alabama receive so much from the federal government is due to their very high percentage of blacks and the dysfunction and dependency inherent in that demographic.
Additionally, many red states have very small populations and that means fewer tax payers.
Where do you have the best means to defend yourself? Which states will you not have to face a civil case from the family of the thugs who attacked you?
Don't worry, by the time Illinois, California and New York's underfunded state pensions require massive federal bailouts to remain solvent, and intolerance towards the south's drain on federal resources will quickly be diverted. Governor Jerry Brown recently commissioned a report to ascertain a prudent borrowing level over the next 5 years for state capitial improvement projects (BTW, the first time in 16 years a CA gov satisfied this state constitutional requirement), it compares CA's debt to the top 10 indebted states in the US. The report shows Illinois to already to be non-viable, with New York a distant 2nd, and CA just after that at 3rd. IIRC, the federal government advises state debt at no more than 5% of a states GDP, Illinois was 10%+.

Like violating the 10th Amendment on nearly every subject and issue that states have a right and obligation to lead in?
Like limiting/violating the 2nd Amendment rights of all Americans based on opinions, feelings, and lies of a ruling class?
Yeah the North East the source of a great many regressive ideas, laws and policies.
It's not the "red neck Americans they are really "targeting" with these attacks. It's thinly veiled racism on the part of the OP. The southern states have the highest percentage of blacks in the country. Mississippi is nearly 40% black IIRC. And of course it's the state liberals like to hold up as the most violent, least educated and among the highest levels of federal support. Lets be honest...the "liberals" hide behind their (in)"tolerance" and attack black people every chance they get.
With regards to your comments regarding the manufacturing economy, I concur. Last time I was in Alabama I was impressed with the number fo new factories in production or under construction. Quite a contrast with NY or NJ, where you go past mile after mile of rusting warehouses and crumbling factories.
You are so right on with this post! I stated earlier that when Democrats hate on the South, they are hating on much of their constituency. It's thinly veiled racism. Also, there are many other minorities in the south, including Mexicans and Asians. Gosh darn it, them southern states vote for democrats, but them dems, they dissin' everybody! I live in a town that is 50% black. We all live together down here, especially by economic demographics. We appreciate others' cultures and support each other when possible. Just folks making their way through life.
