I couldn't help but notice that Democratic voters tend to let things like the Patriot Act, spying, illegal wars and the war on drugs "slide" as long as a Democrat is in charge. Why is that?

Usually most of them are the ones on welfare feeding from the big government or jealous of the successful people in life.

...and conservative voters didn't let those slide when the Republicans were in charge?

They did. This problem applies to both sides of the equation. Why both sides allow it is one of the great unanswered questions.

Who says that what you are asserting is even true? The most liberal voters are critical of spying -- even when a Democrat is doing it.

Examples:
Reid accuses CIA of intimidation, orders review of spying charges

Here's Why The NSA Illegal And Unconstitutional Spying Should Worry You

Bernie Sanders Wants to Know Whether the NSA Has Been Spying on Congress

It was indeed true that conservatives were apologists during the Bush Admin on the matter of spying and torture. That just isn't true on the liberal side that is consistently against domestic spying and torture.

Because too many democrats are nothing more than unprincipled, partisan, political hacks. They lack a set of core principles, and with nothing to guide them they allow petty politics to guide them instead.

What's the saying, "if you stand for nothing, you will fall for anything." With no principles to guide them, too many dems simply fall right in line with their elected politicians like good little sheep.

For example, under Bush four trillion in new debt, charging Bush of committing domestic spying, engaging in corporate cronyism, and characterizing him as unilaterally starting wars, and lying to the public- all of these to the democrats were impeachable acts, and they despised Bush for them.

But even though Obama is engaging in the same exact things that they accused Bush of, and Obama is even doubling down on all of them, the same democrats could care less. Why? Because they have no core principles, it's all about political party politics to them.

To be sure, there are Republicans who are the same way, but the democrats are overrun with mindless sheeple, and they are taking the country down with them.

Oh please. It wasnt that long ago that these very individuals were telling us that we had nothing to hide, then it doesnt matter if the government spies on you.

...and many liberals opposed Obama, or at least called him to task, for doing so as well.

Since the OP was just addressing one side of the equation I just wanted to balance it out.

Usually Democrat voters (including myself) are willing to forgive some things because the country (and states) are always better off in the hands of a Democratic politician. The standard of living is just higher under Democratic administrations.

A lot of people in my home state of New York are upset over the SAFE Act and very vocal about it. However, most people (NY leans 60-65% Democrat) are more concerned with their economic and social well-being overall than their "personal freedoms." You couldn't convince me to move to a hard conservative state, where the standard of living for the community is generally lower. I can tolerate some of the nanny-state laws (most are more weird than intrusive) because they usually don't apply to everyone. For example, the coke bottle restriction is pretty stupid, but people who drink coke are just going to buy two. A lot of people don't drink soda / pop anymore, so it doesn't affect a good number of people.
