I think maybe even the Shiites long for the days of Saddam. Well we can thank Bush for his wonderful war of liberation. He liberated our economy as well as Iraq... from prosperity.

"Baghdad (AFP) - As recently as the 1970s, Baghdad was lauded as a model city in the Arab world. But now, after decades of seemingly endless conflict, it is the world's worst city.

That is, at least, according to the latest survey by the Mercer consulting group, which when assessing quality of life across 239 cities, measuring factors including political stability, crime and pollution, placed Baghdad last.

Once an Arab model, Baghdad now world's worst city

It has been downhill for Baghdad ever since Saddam rose to power. If you are interested, you should read about the bloody rise to power of Saddam and the fall of Iraq.

We certainly didn't improve the situation.

No we did not, we took a small wound and stuck a knife in it in hopes to heal it.

I'm willing to bet if you polled Americans, atleast 75% would say Iraq is better off today than under Saddam. 5% would have no idea what Iraq is

Unfortunately, you're probably right. If anything, you may have low-balled the 75% figure. Then again, the majority of Americans are self-absorbed idiots, so it isn't much of a surprise.

Baghdad's decent started in September 22, 1980 when Iraq invaded Iran to start the Iran-Iraq War, which lasted until August 1988. In September of 1980 Bush II was helping his father not get the Republican nomination for president.

It was further diminished when Iraq invaded Kuwait August 2, 1990 almost exactly 2 years after the last war created by an invasion of another nation ended. Notice a pattern here? Bush II was busy being the managing general partner of the Texas Rangers. Bush I did, with most of the world's help, mount Desert Storm - but seriously, what was he supposed to do? The fault of this belonged to Saddam and our idiot ambassador who gave him the impression we would just sit on the sideline.

Now the second Gulf War, that is Bush II's baby, and to a lesser extent Obama's, but by that time the vast majority of the damage to Baghdad had already been done.

It will take a while for Iraq to recover - not from Bush but from Saddam Hussein. They threw us and our easy guilt ridden American dollars out, so it's up to them.

...
So up until 44 years ago, it was lauded as a model city in the Arab world.

First, 44 years ago was when the decline began. Bush had nothing to do with that.

Second, in the Arab world. Mexicali is nice, too, until you get to Calexico.

Third, all cities rise and fall. Reality.

Muslims killing other Musilms, and anyone else they can. It's what they do. So how are things in Cairo, Damascus and Beirut these days? For that matter...I wonder if they looked at Detroit or Dearborn in the study.
