What better way to reduce the deficit than by reducing the size of our military. As has been pointed out in the past the average serviceman is compensated $92,000 per year. Officers would be higher. Lawmakers boosted compensation way above the cost of living over the past 13 years. At some point we might have to look at a two tier military. Pay and benefits are almost 40% of the defense budget. Then you add on $160 billion at the VA and you can see the gravy train.

Government is obligated to sustain unnecessary military jobs because some want military careers?

I seem to recall some general saying most jobs could be eliminated over the next 5 years due to the military's use of technology.

Tell me again how the GOP is different than the Dems?
House Republicans are quietly working to insert immigration legislation into the text of the Department of Defense authorization bill that would allow so-called DREAMers to obtain permanent legal residency by joining the military

With this above, I don't see any different and it seems you were the only one to see it. Everyone else is griping about people still being able to enlist and fail to see who is being able to join.

The GOP are nothing, but sheep in wolves clothing..........
