I picked up the New York Times this afternoon and predictably there was outrage over the botched execution that is causing us to debate the death penalty once again. The New York Times and the people in the letters column are all outraged that we have a death penalty, that we are barbarians and that we should join the rest of the civilized world that has done away with them.
Sorry. I'm not feeling it.
This convicted piece of trash stood by while his buddies buried a young woman ALIVE. Why are people less outraged by the crimes and what the victims and their families have gone through and instead have compassion for the subhuman pieces of trash who carry out such violent crimes?
If you would have read through the thread you would know that your strawman has been covered.
Every year approximately 50 murders occur in prison. The victims include both other prisoners, guards and other prison workers (doctors, nurses and pshrinks are among the victims). All too often these victims are killed at the hands of those sentenced to life in prison that think they have nothing to loose. Our unwillingness to insist on justice and execute the worst of the animals in our prison system puts others at risk. If it saves just one life capital punishment is worth it. Not to mention that it is justice and brings a degree of closure to the loved ones of the victim.
Every year 30% of murdered women were killed by an intimate partner. My point? We don't kill someone based upon what you think they *might* do.
No violent prisoner killed anyone while in solitary confinement. That would be a pretty rotten life IMO and a better alternative that killing someone for what they *might* do.
Do people really think the average guv employee should be trusted with matters of life and death?
Good point, I wouldn't trust many of them to clean my toilets.
