China's always been a quite powerful country, even the British Empire was wary of the Chinese, although we did have a war with them over Opium.
It's not like China has suddenly appeared from no where, it has never been a country you would want to poke with a stick, and now that it is full of smog ridden urban hell holes it's managed to produce endless cheap goods to satisfy the western worlds obsessive consumerism.
Somebody has to make all the worlds goods cheaply and if it wasn't China it would be India or somewhere else where labour costs are cheap, people work long hours and overheads are low.
OK righties, how could Obama have stopped China? China's not a country of peasants anymore and they have 4X the population, of course their economy would eventually surpass ours.

When Deng Xiaoping became the Chinese Premier in the late 1970s, he put in place reforms that started diminishing the influence of the Chinese Communist Party, and introduced free-market concepts that have been accelerating ever since. This led directly to China's economic ascendency today.

An estimated 5% of Chinese are Christians. In the same way one could claim that China will become the largest Christian country, one could also say they will become the largest Muslim Country. Having a billion people allows you to have the largest raw number.

Anybody who is upset about this lives in a fantasy land of immense proportions. China has more than four times our population. On the day they pass us, we will still be four times richer than they are.
I suppose the ODS sufferers who are freaking out about this also think India is richer than Norway, because its GDP is twice as large.
