Summers: High unemployment for years - Eamon Javers - POLITICO.com

Quote:
The president’s chief economic adviser warned Friday that the nation’s unemployment rate could stay “unacceptably high” for years to come — a situation that would seriously complicate Barack Obama’s ability to convince Americans that he’s beating back the recession.
Of course, the good news is that Obama and team saved 90% of all US jobs, because no doubt without his stimulus package, we'd have 100% unemployment by now.

So, he is doing a great job on the economy.

But when or at what point do we get to criticize his performance?

I'll take this as sarcasm, I hope.

He owns it, it is his.

Just like Republicans blamed Clinton for everything, democrats are going to blame Bush for everything. Politics is a blame game, blame everyone else. "It wasn't me, I was mislead, I was misquoted, It's a conspriracy".

If 1982 economy was Reagan's (two years since he took office), I would say, give Obama couple of years. Fair? No? Was 1933 economy FDR's? When did the economy become FDR's?

Since he says he has pulled the country back from the abyss I take it that he has claimed the economy as his very own. I am ready to blame him for all the unemployment that continues to grow. Why not when people continually call me a racist because I didn't vote for him and don't support him.

The economy has to be his since he has pulled us away from that brink.

Not yet. The deficit is growing and Congress may need to approve an increase. The US is borrowing $30 billion per week and may not be able to make it to the end of the budget year.

So it may be one more "blame it on Bush" as Geithner tries to get the debt ceiling raised.

Great point, Roy. He started off the speech to Congress extolling his accomplishments with the economy.

It's his. He claims it. He'll have to take the good with the bad.

well considering he is operating on Dubya's budget which doesn't end until FISICAL September 30th, 2009 how is this his economy?
Obama's budget begins on October 1st, 2009 and if you want to take it from there that's fine with me.
