Opinions are changing in PA but the SSM ruling was not universally welcomed and probably closer to evenly split. They don't call the state Pennsyl-Kentucky for nothing.
Chris Christie is an attorney and as such knows fully well when an appellate court says upfront "not likely to succeed" when a case is presented *that* off the bat should tell a wise lawyer to rethink his options.
Corbett loses nor gains really nothing by not appealing the decision. At this stage those not disposed to voting for him before these recent events aren't likely to change their minds, and those already in his camp probably will suck it up and deal with conditions on the ground as they are.

I wouldn't call Corbett in a tight re-election race. It is baically setting up to be another 2006 in the state, but instead of it being Santorum in the Senate seat, it will be Corbett as Governor. It isn't evenl split in the state either, Quinnipiac poll from April had support for same sex marriage at 57% in the state and opposition at 37% (other polls also back that up)
Fact of the matter is, Corbett is a deeply unpopular Governor unlikely to win re-election and he was clearly on the wrong side of his state on this issue. It probably isn't going to help much as far as winning re-election simply because he might be too far gone for anything at this point, but if he kept fighting this it would have liekly buried him even further.
