Of course all they had to do, if they had gotten a bad vibe from him, was say they caught the smell of marijuana in the house, and there was a warrant.

The point is, its hard to find mental illness, because not everyone who is mentally ill is a threat.
Even harder if you're not looking for it.

People only need to tell the police they haven't heard from person X in a while (days/weeks) or person X isn't answering their phone (days/weeks) and could they check up on them.

As long as they don't find a dead body in the home then everything is OK.

College grads should be cops?

They don't allow that.

There is a criminal background check everybody needs to pass if you want to obtain firearms legally in California. I had to fill out a form and answering some questions.

I don't think there is a mental health background check.

Well gosh! We all know that NEVER happens.....

Who's "they" that don't allow cops to be college grads. Many police department require college as part of their applicant backgrounds.

Some people are just afraid of guns, and that's OK.

The NRA's Orwellian Games On Guns And The Mentally Ill

Those were the words---severely mentally ill---that the poster I was replying to used. So ask lilyflower where them came from.
Wrong.

The NRA wants an ‘active’ mental illness database. Thirty-eight states have that now. - The Washington Post

He was 22 and no longer living at home. Are you suggesting parents have control over what their ADULT children buy? If so, that is news to me.

Man It seems like you have a solution for all these. If I knew somebody was dangerous, I reported them to authorities. I don't care how old they are.

Just one thing, you should either stay scared, or have an extremely healthy respect for them. They are not toys.
