Fascists are extreme nationalists whereas Communists believe in a worldwide revolution of workers irrespective of nationalism. They represent the extremes of the political spectrum. Something you should be most familiar with.
If the way we envision the ideological structure of left and right, were made into a circle, the extreme left of despotic communism and the far right wing of fascism would be side by side. Neither forms of government allow any rights or freedoms for their people. A fascist dictator like Benito Mussolini would be right next to a Joseph Stalin, Fidel Castro, or Hugo Chavez.

When Obama plays the crony capitalist, and throws hundreds of billions to corporations, the left loves it. When he plays the dictator with his pen and phone, they love that too. When his IRS or EPA single out to punish the people and activities they don't like, the left loves it.
The American left love the governments of people like Castro and Chavez. Communism, socialism and fascism just kind mix and meld into a tyrant's dream of control and domination.
