It IS ridiculous, but the funnier thing is how the the right-wingers latch onto a little portion of a study loaded with lots of ideas with the ultimate goal of reducing obesity targeted at ONLY those on public assistance!

That's what's really funny! Simply throwing a bit of a story up to get some frenzied, rabid reaction without even reading the study itself!

Because if rush says it's so.. By gummit it must be true!

For those of you interesting in reading the source material and not how some third party interprets it:

http://www.fns.usda.gov/sites/defaul...eport-0714.pdf

Note that it is 80+ pages long, but easy reading.

The part about the MyCart Grocery Divider starts on page 33 (at least, on my computer screen).

I couldn't find any part about 'talking' carts. The report did offer (mainly as an alternative) carts that have been physically modified (fruits and veggies in one section, meat in another, etc), estimating that it would cost a supermarket $30,000 to replace 300 carts.

However, the report says nothing about mandating such, and I doubt that anyone in authority would do so. The approach that appears to be most recommended is some piece of paper that a consumer, if they desired, would lay on the bottom of the cart, showing the food pyramid or such.

Much of the report is devoted to the issue of how to get SNAP users to purchase more healthy food (a subject that often appears here on CD). One way is to offer more coupons for healthy foods. Indeed, much of this bloated report addresses that issue.

What a bunch of maroons. The government needs to just friggin stop already. STOP! Get the hell out of our lives! No wonder our taxes such. No wonder this country is in decline. Government keeps expanding its role to areas it has no damn business in. And then they waste money on stupid studies and idiotic ideas such as this! What the hell are we, all a bunch of children that need to be "congratulated" now when we pick out what they say we should eat?!

What the hell is happening to America?

Talking cart or not, stay out of our lives! How much do we pay for all these studies and this and that in areas the government has no business in. Dont tell me what to eat. Dont recommend me what to eat. Its not your business. Stick to government related matters and quit expanding your role. Our government's purpose was not to do all this crap that they've nominated themselves to be doing. Its gotten way out of hand. Stick to roads, emergencies, security. Stay out of my damn life!

Well if that comes to pass I'm going to pick the Spanish speaking cart so I have no idea what it's telling me as I shop the way I want to shop.
