So? If we panic we are lost. Commerce breaks down, medical care collapses. We can't let ignorance take over and dictate our response as it seems so many are demanding. When we do that, and I tend to think it may be inevitable, the whole house of cards that is civilization comes down and millions upon millions will die. Ignorance = death.

Hold your horses, read that article again. It says/infers animals/people in close proximity of Ebola can contract the disease through airborne pathogens.
As far as mosquitoes are concerned, we don't know the extent of this. At some point I would imagine there will a mosquito outbreak and this epidemic will get worse.

That 36,000 was modeled back in 1999.
Newer models using the same data have changed that to 23,000.
Estimates of Deaths Associated with Seasonal Influenza --- United States, 1976--2007

I put that 36,000 annual flu deaths right up there with the 11 million illegals.
Same numbers for over a decade and they never change.
Across the planet, not just the US the numbers are anywhere between 250,000 and 500,000 per year in deaths. But even the lower US numbers are nothing to take lightly, being the US has 1 Ebola death and I doubt the number will reach numbers that would be rationally called a serious outbreak.

I want to see what happens when a case is handled correctly from the very beginning. Duncan's treatment was delayed 48 hours, which undoubtedly harmed his chance of survival.

There are so many roundabout ways to get into the United States, that my thinking is that we do better the way we are now, with a better chance of getting a handle on any incoming infected persons, than we would do if we forced them to sneak into the country.

More than that, I'm very perturbed about people trying to bar MILLIONS of people from traveling out of their country, because a few thousand have gotten sick.

Liberia has a population of 4.294 MILLION people. 3,024 people have been infected (infected, they didn't all die). The majority of the people there are healthy and uninfected.

Sierra Leone has a population of 6.092 MILLION people. 2,789 people have been infected (infected, not died). The majority of the people there are healthy and uninfected.

Guinea has a population of 11.75 MILLION people. 1,298 people have been infected (infected, not died). The majority of the people there are healthy and uninfected.

Nigeria has a population of 173.6 MILLION people. 20 people have been infected (infected, not died).

It's a scary disease. Even scarier in countries without the resources to deal with it. But we're talking about almost 200 MILLION people in the region, and only 8,033 cases.

Fear is the mind-killer.

Huh???

I'm just terribly confused on your stance here. In one post you claim that people are overreacting and there is no threat from Ebola, but then in another post you claim Ebola is a major threat to the US and you predict that within 2 years millions of Americans will have contracted and died from Ebola.

Which is it?

And just like here the folks in Spain are just as upset and demanding the same of their government.
Once it happens on your shores, people seem to wake up because the threat becomes more real.

Ebola in the US is NOT the same as Ebola in Africa.
The numbers would be drastically different (and lower).
So by your reasoning we are doing great when compared to other viruses that can and do attack us on a regular basis. When one looks at the numbers they should realize that the entire thing is being blown way out of proportion, never forget that is what sells and gets viewers and next week it will be something else.

The longer this Ebola outbreak keeps going the more chance it has to become airborne and more contagious.

Ebola strikes the cells in the body that coagulate the blood . When the virus progresses , organs and such start to bleed. That is what is so deadly about this virus.

How anyone lives through this is a mystery to me, unless the virus is stopped by each individuals immune system and less hemorrhaging occurs.
