Def NOT a "race" thing either in LatAm. It's pretty much all "culture". I say that because word is Argentina is almost pure "white" in race but Mexico's mostly Indian or Mestizo.
True, it's culture. And that's why when people say we're turning into Europe I say, no, we're turning into Central and South America. That's where the the future majority of this nation are from.
Scores for some students can be improved, but there is a ceiling to how far Hispanics students as a group can be brought up. Studies looking a multiple generations of Hispanics in America have shown that between first and third generation Hispanics, there is only marginal improvement.
It has to be emphasized that if Hispanics were able to reach parity with Whites and Asians, then it would have been accomplished in South and Central America by now, in some countries, at the least. It hasn't. Not all groups of people have the same potential. That is the hard truth.
How many S. American countries even provide a free education? Regardless, S. America heavily discriminates against dark skin Hispanics so there is no way to know if any scoring differential actually exists.

If your going to complain about the changing face of America, then place the blame on both Democrats and Republicans. As a matter of fact, at least since Reagan, Republicans have been at the forefront in amnesty and loose immigration laws.
I have never been a supporter of loose immigration laws but both parties have put other interests ahead of the country's. For the Republicans it was their base's economic interests; for the Democrats, their political interests.
However, the country has changed and it has changed irreversibly. Whether I welcome it or reget it does not matter because it is where we are and we have to deal with it.
It impacts the kids when they enter school not knowing any English.
Bilingual only goes to 5th grade.
MS and HS are English only for now.
They are at a disadvantage because of language.
Many parents are not bilingual though; they don't speak English.
Lately they don't even speak Spanish; it's an indigenous language.
Some students don't speak any English at home..mostly due to older relatives living in the home that don't speak English (their custom).
It will be several generations before the families are truly bilingual due to multi-generation housing and family members that don't speak any English.
Now you may not see this where you live but this is very prevalent in Texas where we've had majority Hispanic for some time.
Most second generation children born in the U.S. are bilingual, so save the "several generations" anti-immigration propaganda for someone else.
More importantly, you are using a straw man's argument. The debate was about over hearing a family speaking another language in a "park" or in public. How do you go from that to making a baseless assumption that they can not properly speak English?
Your argument is that because they speak Spanish at home, the'll have problems succeeding. Then explain why this does not apply to the Chinese as well? Is it because you're only bias against Hispanics?
You still have not proved how a non-White majority is a bad thing especially when the problem isn't a Minority vs Whites issue but, as in other counties tested, it's a Rich vs Poor issue...
You and the article you linked to have conflated correlation and causation. The fact that those that are from lower socio-economics classes score lower does not mean that being poor causes low test scores. This faulty idea has been disproven time and time again, because different ethnic groups from lower income brackets don't all score equally bad. The gap in testing still exists even when income is accounted for.
When looking at causes of test scores, racial group has better predictive value than income level.
And you know for all the acceptance of Spanish everywhere in our society we still push English only in the schools.
The K-5 bilingual is to teach them English. And from 6-12 we only teach in English.
Yet Spanish has become our second language (and maybe first in the future) so why aren't schools providing Spanish only K-12 education ? Then English becomes a language to learn in HS.
In MS we are now providing a "linguistically accommodated" version of tests for those MS students that haven't been through K-5 bilingual education. The DOE says if we accommodate for the lack of proficiency in English beyond 5th grade then scores will improve.

We are getting 3rd generation Hispanics entering Kindergarten not knowing English.
As long as grandma doesn't speak English then the home is Spanish only.
These stats are true; the white population will become a minority and has been reported to be coming for quite some time. We have also been dumbing down our citizens for a long time. It is what it is. That cow has left the barn.
It's a good thing to rich liberals who of course send their kids to 99% white private schools. Social engineering is like a video game for them.
