If you're asking my opinion and speculation before any possible trial, then fine - I believe that the officer probably reacted to the criminals attack and shot in defense. I don't believe at all that the officer was out for revenge, or decided to execute anyone.

Was the officer being assaulted at the time of the shooting, or before he gave chase to Brown?
The subsequent shots were to kill Brown, face to face, man to man.
