Actually it's on my homepage and it's pretty big news since someone ended up resigning from their job at a Catholic school after being caught on camera taking part in this. Don't know about "outrage" or what you mean by that.

He took, "Onward Christian Soldier" a little too seriously!

Maybe the two victims were wearing Cowboys jerseys so it was completely justified. No, I'm kidding.
I did hear this morning that some of the perpetrators and witnesses said the fight was mutual and the gay couple swung first. There was also a case recently in Philly where a skateboarder got into a fight and assaulted a park ranger and was subsequently arrested. The ranger said in a statement that he did not defend himself or raise his hands against the boarder. Then later a videotape showed him with his arms up and swinging at the boarder.
I won't take sides and any gang attack on anybody is a show of cowardice. But as they say, there's always two sides to every story and in the case of the park ranger, he shouldn't have lied and just stuck to the truth. I love watching boarders vs security guard fights on Youtube and almost always take the side of the guard. The truth is the important thing. Lying is a show of cowardice, too.

1210 WPHT AM radio mentioned it in their morning news headlines, so I imagine they got it out of local news on TV or the paper. I'm not saying its true, just what was reported. I wouldn't blame the couple for swinging if they were verbally insulted. Even starting a fight doesn't deserve getting a beat down by a mob. But we've learned multiple times in high publicity cases not to jump to conclusions and make snap judgments.

"He hopes it will add to the growing — if ignoble — list of cases he can cite in a push to include sexual orientation in the state’s hate crime laws. " Come on Pennsylvania. Even Texas is ahead of you on this one.

15 on 2, huh? Big tough guys aren't they? I'm impressed.

Some think that there should be protected classes, where certain designated groups get special treatment. The OP seems to think that being gay makes a person immune from a fight the same way some think that men should never hit women.

The thing about protected classes is that everyone is a member of every protected class - no special treatment, just harsher punishment for the criminal.

I guess it's possible, but it's hard for me to believe that two 2 gay men physically attacked a group of 15.

I can believe it. It's similar to a woman attacking a man much stronger than herself. She only does it because she either believes that the man won't hit back or she has never been hit and doesn't truly comprehend the consequences of initiating a fight. It might have been similar with these gay guys, though I wasn't there so I'm only speculating based on the witness reports.
