I am not so worried. US counts the debt unpaid against its GDP. China is underpinned by the assumption that all debt will be paid by government, mostly does not.

A country with 1 billion people has a larger economy than the US. I'm so surprised... not. *yawns*
I'm only surprised (and worried) that it was a communist country that did that.

Innovation requires more than matching R&D spending, it will require a less invasive Chinese govt, but it is "alarming" nonetheless. We need to step our game as our universities are the best on the planet but we need to better fund them.

Well, they have neighborhood 5 times our population and a fair share of our manufacturing, so I'm not surprised.

Sometimes I think the only thing they are better at than us is computer systems hacking.

Agreed and word is wages are going up FAST in China so more and more production is LEAVING that country for "cheaper" places like Vietnam, India, and even the US.
