Because it would be a good idea for a metro of 23 million people to have easy access to guns? That sounds like a bad idea, nothing like having a loaded weapon on you when you are packed in a full subway car, what could go wrong there.

I think walking off the job would be a bit extreme and just lead to the Army having to police the streets.

In terms of the two dead offices there deaths are very sad but it shouldn't be forgotten that there are nut cases in most countries, and the Police have to deal with them everyday.

We have had our own tragedies in the UK, including the killing of two women police constables in Manchester in 2012 by deranged gangland figure Dale Cregan.

BBC News - Dale Cregan held after policewomen killed in Manchester

Whilst just the other day an off duty police officer on a night out in Liverpool was murdered.

BBC News - Off-duty PC Neil Doyle murder suspect arrested

The Police in Britain and especially the Metropolitan Police in London have a close relationship and kinship with the NYPD and will no doubt be sending their condolences to the NYPD.

The Job is Universal and has always had it's risks.

no what I am saying is that the black community needs to clean its act up and stop giving the police and everyone else a reason to not trust them.

It would be an unforgiveable breach of faith and a public relations disaster.

Maybe you need to remove your blinders. There is a lot you aren't seeing.

Some police officers..not all but far too many..need to be taught that they were actually HIRED to do a JOB, not that they were initiated into a special government sponsored street gang. The blue wall of silence, corruption, are all the result of this "gang" "never rat on your brother" mentality. If civilians want better policing, this mentality needs to be crushed from the first day that recruits enter police academies. As long as this is the first thing cops learn (and make no mistake that it is), you will always have an adversarial, non-professional police force that skirts the law. And no, paying them more doesn't change this, as here on LI we have the highest paid cops in the country and they still cover up for their brethren, even when they commit felonies while on drunken rampages.

On the other hand, you also obviously need to have an education program in schools that you should not be combative with police and resist them with force. Obviously young black men are not being taught this by their parents, more likely the opposite.

that's the premise if you believe the protestors and sharpton
Really? I didn't hear protestors or Sharpton say any such thing. How did you come to this conclusion?

He hates them? Which part of his comments have made you think that he hates them?

What? Wouldn't it make sense that those two notions go hand in hand. You work with the cops in order to make things better. It helps if you can trust them and if they didn't treat you like a suspect. Mutual respect is a thing and it helps to build a working relationship between the police and the community in which they serve.

Still not sure what the definition of the black community is when someone writes a statement like this. The MAJORITY of black people not being criminals, working, paying taxes, etc isn't enough to make it make sense to trust the "black community". Interesting.

How does being against a particular policy, in this case "stop-and_frisk," make him "anti-cop?"

One can dislike the color red without disliking every other color in the spectrum.

Why does it have to be all or nothing with so many people?

As for the OP: no.

If the NYPD are, like so many posters on this thread, unable to distinguish between a lone wolf who had already shot his girlfriend and the valid complaints against a few bad apples in their own midst, well, there are obviously bigger problems at work here.

Cost has EVERYTHING to do with the quality of life.

Know why the Bay Area is so expensive? Oh yeah...because it's undesirable from a quality of life standpoint. That's what people do...drop millions to live in places where the quality of life is terrible.

An apartment in San Francisco costs more than your whole city block where you live because life is BETTER in San Fran.

Get it?

The problem is that when it comes to police union rhetoric here in the NY metro area, there must be an expectation that no level of hyperbole is too much. The police unions will do whatever it has to in order to 1)maximize the bottom line for current members 2) resist any increase in oversight or discipline for police officers.

Look up James Carver vides on youtube. This is the head of the Nassau PBA, one of the most highly compensated police forces in the country. The guys basically a mobster/longshoreman who gets paid like a PHD. Scary stuff that people like this have as much influence as they do. He makes Lynch look like an aristocrat.

This is a really ugly situation.
