A clear case of insubordination. Fire the ring leader and discipline every single officer that turned their backs on their Commander-In-Chief. Upset that the Mayor took a different position on the Eric Garner case, police figured they'd get back at the Mayor by turning their backs on him.
Didn't these officers take an Oath to be subordinate and show the proper respect towards senior leadership and their Mayor as Commander-In-Chief?

A mentally unstable man is to blame for the deaths. It's TOTALLY irresponsible for the union head to make such an outlandish claim that blood is on the mayor's hands. He's ticked off that the mayor called the force out on what is the truth about reforms needing to take place in the NYPD.
If the union chief wants to ignore the truth of weeding out bad cops and wants to create an air of "us vs. them" then fine, let it be. They're going to be surprised just how galvanized the people can be in that context.
Sickened by these barbaric acts, which sadly are a predictable outcome of divisive anti-cop rhetoric of #ericholder & #mayordeblasio. #NYPD — George E. Pataki (@GovernorPataki) December 21, 2014
Of course George Pataki is exactly right. De Blasio must resign. Fortunately, Holder already has.

And yet, some on the Left blamed the shooting of Gabby Giffords on Sarah Palin's campaign rhetoric, so double standards continue.

This really is all the mayor's fault. He ended the stop and frisk policy that could have stopped the shooter. He pressed the civil cases against loose cigarettes that the nypd was enforcing. He criticized the police after garner. He promoted the "we want dead cops" protests. This is his tragedy.

There is reforms needed, I agree but DeBlasio has plenty to clean up in his own yard.

They can no longer be permitted to police themselves.
No, DeBlasio fanned the flames by making it a race issue with all NY cops. That's what Sharpton does. There's nothing to indicate it was race related and that the cop wouldn't have done the same thing to a 350 pound white perp. If you think that cop did something wrong it was that he continued to use a choke hold when the perpetrator said he couldn't breathe. DeBlasio made it into white cops do bad things to black people and every law abiding black person should be afraid of them. He, along with Holder and Obama made it a racial issue.
"And yet, because of a history that still hangs over us, the dangers he may face, we've had to literally train him—as families have all over this city for decades—in how to take special care in any encounter he has with the police officers who are there to protect him. And that painful sense of contradiction that our young people see first, that our police are here to protect us, and we honor that, and at the same time, there's a history we have to overcome, because for so many of our young people, there's a fear. And for so many of our families, there's a fear. So I've had to worry over the years. Chirlane's had to worry. Is Dante safe each night? There are so many families in this city who feel that each and every night. Is my child safe? And not just from some of the painful realities—crime and violence in some of our neighborhoods—but is safe from the very people they want to have faith in as their protectors." DeBlasio
we have more than enough evidence that NYPD is more heavy handed with Blacks...
problem is, unless you have someone who is Black or of color in your immediate family you won't understand his stance.

It was noted yesterday that when people get scared the first thing they want is for others to give up their Constitutional rights, and right here is a prime example.
