He is 90 years old, and in poor health, but still with us.
I have always found President Bush I to exemplify an honorable man.
How about a thread honoring him, while he is still with us in body as well as spirit.
I admire him for three things, serving his country bravely in WWII, for being a strong and loyal husband to Barbara since 1945, and for showing restraint and good sense in the first Iraq War. More generally, he embodied a moderate, sensible approach during his presidency, which was appreciated after the ideological excesses (in my opinion) of Reagan.
I am a left-leaning voter, but I appreciate a public servant who tries to lead all Americans. And with the partisan nastiness of recent years, it is good to remember a time when a president and the citizens could see good in the other side.
George H. W. Bush is a good man, and I raise my coffee mug to him today!
Some people will knock his change on "choice", supposedly to be nominated as Reagan VEEP. Others will call him a traitor to the conservative cause for backtracking on the taxes pledge.
Overall, I do believe that he is an honest man who tried and generally succeeded at being of service to the country.
I remember when he called Reaganomics "voodoo economics".
And he was right!
