Then how would you ban marriage for all the heterosexual couples who don't plan to have children? Or who are unable to? And are you forgetting that many gay married couples, like us, have children?

Marriage did not become a government institution for the benefit of the family. It was a politically motivated decision by Martin Luther and the Protestants against the Catholic Church. Now, in recent years the government has added numerous benefits that do help families, but that's not why it was passed over to secular authorities.
The Presbyterian church considers marriage a sacrament. Pretty sure the Lutherans and Episcopals do too.

It doesn't matter if people accept gay marriage or not. What's important is that minorities have equal rights.

Alberta has no choice but to accept the law of Canada. Gays are not seeking approval , just a level playing field.

You should also understand that over 45 percent of Albertans support equal marriage, which is higher than the 42 percent in the U.S. In Canada 60 percent support equal marriage. So Alberta really isn't too out of step, but they are still the province with the lowest support.

It should also be noted, that in the 10 years that Alberta has been forced to treat gays equally in marriage, the issue is dead. There are no calls for retracting the law. No protests etc.
Why?
Because in the end Albertans whether they are for or against gay marriage understand it doesn't affect them on way or another.

EDIT: I should add that yes having it legal does help more people accept equal marriages. Gay people feel equal in Canada and the more people that come out, the more people get educated about gay people. Gays have historically headed for the big cities. That is why cities are more accepting of gay people, since more people in cities tend to know gay people as people.

I feel a Streisand song coming on. LOL

Lutheran church in Finland recently announced they support gay marriage, and that caused a mass exodus from the church.

Don't like same sex marriage? Don't get married to someone of the same sex. That's the only way it affects you.

They may now, but during the Protestant Reformation, Martin Luther and Protestants objected to it and called it a "worldly thing". It was thereby passed over to a justice of the peace and the states. Civil marriage become compulsory in Europe.

74% percent of Albertans support gay marriage so your stats are wrong. Albertans shed traditional stereotype with more progressive views on social issues, poll finds. And Alberta is the most right wing place in Canada!! Before you know it gay marriage will be legal in all 50 states and it will be universally accepted just like it is in Canada even among the conservatives there.

Canada is going down a bad road like most of america. What happens when you legalize gay marriage? You force religion to marry gays. Then what happens? You are breaking separation of church and state. Leftists today hate religion and want to destroy its power in order to further their control. Soon, gay marriage will be fully allowed in all 50 states. Then polygamy will be allowed. Then pedophilia. Then bestiality. Its a never ending cycle until years from now, marriage becomes a union between two pronouns.
