I highly doubt the media can give an accurate portrayal of a complex country like Afghanistan where large amounts of the population live in mountains and are inaccessible to them.
At any rate, our presence probably is not helping improve their opinion of the west.
Leave them people in the warm hands of the Taliban.
After 9/11 we should have sent CIA and SEAL hit teams into Afghanistan and targeted specific Al Q'aida leaders who were part of the financing, planning and execution of the massacre. The operation could have been modeled on how the Mossad went after the Black September murderers.
We didn't need an occupation of Afghanistan and (of course) Saddam had Iraq under his thumb and out of our hair so that was another trillion dollar waste.
Hopefully, after the next massive terror attack on the USA, the president doesn't decide to "invade and hold" some country whose number one crop is dirt.

Didn't the government at the time (Taliban) support and harbored Al Qaeda? You wouldn't be fighting just specific leaders, but the government of Afghanistan.
