Western imperialism/support for Israel's slaughter of Arabs is the reason why anti-western sentiment is huge in that part of the world.
I don't recall the Middle East hating us before any of that. And I don't see Islam as the problem either - the nationalist Middle East of the 50s and 60s hated us, the leftist Middle East of the 70s and 80s hated us, both eras secular. We ruined their region.
