It is a tough situation, and one I think most Americans would rather not be the case but it reflects a reality that isn't within American control - the readiness of people in other nations to do much of the work Americans get paid so well for, at a significantly lower wage. We could isolate ourselves, but that would hurt us because we would lose as much access to foreign markets as we closed off to foreign interests. We could curtail H-1B but short of a government take-over of business that won't stop businesses from moving the work those people would do overseas (which is happening anyway, because H-1B is a hassle). We could deliberately cause a war to bring about some of the positive economic effects of isolation, but only inane right-wingers lack the morals necessary to justify starting a war to foster economic prosperity.
So what's left for us is to determine what we can do to mitigate the negative impact of the situation on human beings. That's still an uphill climb though, because of the aforementioned lack of morals on the part of right-wingers, resulting in an antipathy for actions that prioritize the basic needs of those less fortunate over their own comfort and luxury.
They're not doing anything illegal. And making what they're doing illegal is likely to have a more significant negative impact on our nation in the long run. We need to be more intelligent about it, and more compassionate in our reaction to its impact on us.
To be fair, Indians are much more than 10% as expensive.
Your solution, then, is give them an unemployment check and some government cheese?
Yes.....but this has been happening for more than a decade over this way (New Jersey).
I have been working with H1B people for 20 years. Some of the best software engineers I have known were H1B workers, and many of them are US citizens by now.
If Americans got the skills and the smarts and worked as hard for the same money as foreign laborers I'm sure they would get jobs.
By foreign laborers, you mean foreign workers living in the US? Those living in their respective countries are dirt cheap; there is no way American workers can ever be even close.

According to the article, employers are replacing American workers and underpaying foreign workers. Both acts are definitely illegal. If you can prove what the article claims, there's some handsome money to get back.
I was talking about Indians in India. Indians living in America, yes, almost as expensive as Americans.
It's basically about the rich profiting by replacing locals with an endless supply of foreign temporary workers who can't make demands and aren't protected on the same level as citizens.
All this support for the free market and getting rid of minimum wage and suddenly this bothers you? If the IT workers didn't want to get replaced, they should have spent thousands of dollars studying something a little more practical.
Bingo.................
