Your analogy fails on another level as well. The debate about marriage is about civil marriage. Civil marriage is a law - governed by our Constitution. We're not talking about a "tradition" and whatever religious or "traditional" forces govern your Hypoworld.

The analogy does not fail at all. The ice cream tradition equates to the tradition of marriage. The ice cream and frozen yogurt represent male or female. The fact that the child in the analogy does not prefer the type of treat allowed by tradition, does not mean there is hatred or discrimination if the larger of the town doesn't want to change or redefine the entire tradition to accommodate the preference of a small percentage of the children who are attracted to the opposite treat of that which is offered to everyone equally.

Will it always be this way or will the federal government always have to drag it kicking and screaming into the modern era?

And for those who say I don't understand the South I lived in North Carolina from age 6 to age 26.
You won't drag me kicking and screaming. If you think social progress means confiscating incomes and accepting deviant behavior you may be in for a struggle. Homosexuals don't get to define natural marriage. The backlash is coming Skippy.

There is no such thing a "natural marriage" since marriage is a man made concept and not natural at all.

Tradition has nothing to do with the law. Tradition is no reason to keep an unjust law.
