I've recently just heard that the confederate flag is coming back to I-95!! They said that once the winds slow down, they're gonna put them up! As a Southerner (and a proud Virginian) I could not be happier! What do y'all think about it though?

Put "them" back up where? "They" who? There must be background knowledge about this that I don't have. Please elaborate.

I detest them.

There's one near Fredericksburg and another near Richmond. What an embarrassment for the state.

Any way, the topic fits better in the Virginia parent forum as it isn't specific to NoVA.

There is nothing wrong with being proud of your heritage, and I certainly don't support efforts to "erase" history" which this flag represents. But I'm curious, why would people be proud to fly this flag? Maybe I can learn something here, but this flag is not representative of the United States of America and it has been used in whole and in part to represent a lot of ugliness. So what does it represent to you?

People use the flag for different things. Some people use it for racial stuff, I don't though. To me, it just represents heritage. I had five grandfathers who fought under it. To me, it symbolizes the South and home. Again, this is my own personal opinion though.

Thanks. I just looked up the VA Flaggers and also read some short news articles about the I95 flag.

It's on private property. It's a flag. They can fly it. I don't have any issue with it. If I did, it wouldn't be my place to tell them to not fly it.

That's cool you don't have any issue with it, most people do.

Given all the negative connotations associated with the flag, I am surprised when folks actively embrace it. Slavery, KKK, Neo-Nazi/White Supremacists, and carried by the south when waging war in the name of upholding/defending slavery and "ways of the south". . .that said, I know it is impossible to separate from U.S. history.

It's not against the law, so whatever. It is just a flag to me, a flag that says "avoid that person".

Doesn't matter though, the south still lost.
