Obamas first instinct is to discount terror because he knows most terror attacks are done by muslims. They are not releasing the co-pilot's religion. I hope they find some clue on motivation.
From the beginning, this crash seemed suspicious since it made a regulated descent into the mountains with no distress calls.
I didn't understand why Obama came out the same day and said there was no indications of terror, since no one really knew at that point.
Turns out, this was no accident. The voice recorder shows that the co-pilot asked the pilot if he could control the plane for a bit. The pilot said yes, and left the cockpit for a few minutes. When he returned, the door was locked. The pilot tried to break in to the cockpit, but was unsuccessful, and the co-pilot purposefully crashed into the mountains, killing everyone on board.
We don't know the co-pilot's motivation yet, but it seems like in the future, the responsible thing to do would be wait for the investigation whether than running out and declaring it's not terrorism the first day.
Seems to have been a suicide, or a possibly a case of psychosis (marijuana induced?) but it remains to be proven.
This is one drawback to having terrorist-proof cockpit doors. Once they are locked, no one gets in. Maybe there should be a remote switch where the ground control can unlock it in situations like this.
When did Obama rule out terrorism? That statement sounds a little idiotic. People with an agenda are always trying to bring Obama into every situation. There's help available for this condition...
Yes. It was a complete misrepresentation of his comments which were to the effect that there was no indication of terrorism at that point. The information was the same as being provided by French authorities involved in the investigation. Presumably that would include things like chatter on NSA, postings on websites, and other intel.
There is a fraction of partisan idiots in this forum and the nation at large that have to try to make every incident in the world an anti-Obama moment. It gets old.
IMO just because it wasn't an accident (if indeed that proves to be the case) that doesn't make it terrorism. Terrorism is something larger than a person that commits suicide while taking others with him. There is nothing factual yet that the pilot had any larger statement to make.
Granted, it might have been premature to say this had nothing to do with terrorism but so far I've seen nothing to say it did.
Just because something bad happens, that doesn't make it an act of terrorism.
Read my OP again. I didn't say it was terrorism. I specifically said we don't know why the co-pilot did it. I agree that every mass killing isn't motivated by terrorism.
An appropriate response from the White House, imo, would be to send condolences to the families involved and wait for the investigation.

He might not have heard about this on the news yet.
If he hadn't heard all the news, why make a statement like that? He's so quick to jump to the wrong conclusion. Look at the Michael Brown case, before the investigation even began he was defending Brown and blaming the police.

I caught the news this morning on this and remember them saying that our flight rules are different than over in Europe. If a pilot leaves the cockpit, someone always takes their place. That way 2 people are there at all times. Europe doesn't have this rule and I bet you after this incident that will change.
Are the MSNBC extremists trying to attribute it to someone in the Tea Party yet?
No, but Obama has been mentioned several times already.
