How about people take responsibility for their lot in life. If they want more for themselves go out and earn it like the rest of Americans.
They are.... they are striking for more wages.

Yeah, but you can't afford a car and their public transportation is abysmal.

Exactly, this is nothing more than a hollow gesture from McDonald's.

When your pay off your house in less than a week, you can easily save the money for a cheap used car.
Detroit is like Appalachia. Two people making minimum wage is plenty to get a little house and a cheap use car. But you have to stay off drugs, not have children out of wedlock, etc.

All that pesky personal responsibility stuff. Why should they do that when they can just demand more in exchange for not committing crimes?

But who would pay their water bill? Sarcasm intended, btw.

Expecting people to move on from a fast food, minimum wage job, that always was, and is, meant to support teenagers is bigotry? Try again.

It sunk in. If they could earn a decent wage, they wouldn't be in destitute. Poverty causes crime. It's not caused by ideology, race, or any of the other asinine accusations.

Unbelievable. The problem is this shallow thinking. We need to do a better job of educating in this country.

People are not compelled to have violent urges. Babies don't come out of the womb violent. Violence comes from desperation.

The bigotry argument. So, this is just a black thing, huh?

Of course its about demanding more. $9.15 / hour isn't enough to live in Detroit. For every person that can't make it, a taxpayer will have to subsidize them.
Why are you providing excuses to criminals? The poverty did not make them do it. If something is to blame it is whomever was responsible for raising them and teaching them the rules of civilized society.

No one should expect to live on a mcdonalds job, it is a job for children. if you are living on minimum wage jobs you need to at least get two of them until you are promoted, that is a no brainer.

absolutely right!! back in the 80s, the NHRA pro stock drivers were talking about forming a union and forcing the car owners to pay more money to the drivers. and it started gaining momentum until the drivers realized that the car owners would just replace them with another driver at each race they decided not to run, and that if they wanted more money, they just needed to get out a race for it.

if these people dont want to stay in low paying jobs, like flipping burgers at mcdonalds, then they need to upgrade their skills and go for a better job. mcdonalds is just a starting point, your grandparents had a word for these types of jobs, they called it opportunity.

Darn. Imagine how much money we could have saved fighting the war on drugs if we had only known what the dealers really wanted was a $15 an hour job at McDonald's?
