I haven't heard anything about all of this. Is this $15 an hour minimum wage something new? You would think we might have covered this 15-20 times by now.

Keep in mind that no benefits must be provided by law by any businesses, so that's another big savings for them already! $15/h is still slightly less than $30K annual salary before tax!

Haven't you heard, "The government can not give anything to anybody that they first don't take from someone else".

Sorry, I don't want to subsidize other workers, I work hard enough already.

I'm retired, but if fast food workers start getting $15 a hour, I'm going to work at McDonald's!

You are suggesting that the American Taxpayer should pay for these employees by subsiding their employees. That is just not going to happen here - it does happen in Totalitarian Communist Nations and we are not there ...... YET.

Nobody is opposed to higher wages for good employees - it's perfectly reasonable to be opposed to FORCED wages for all, whether they are an employee worthy of the wage or not. It's not the business of Government to spend Taxpayer Money on their Wealth Redistribution Schemes. The Minimum Wage is a base wage - Employers pay valued employees more than that. The incentive is to be worth more than the Minimum.

MX,

Where do you think the money is going to magically come from to pay a higher minimum wage? The employer will figure out a way to get the jobs done with less employees, and fire some, or they'll have to raise prices. Either than, or the job just won't be worth what they'll have to pay for labor, and they'll just shut it down.

You know what happens when you squeeze jello, don't you?

Government should never tell a business what they must play employees. Why do you want to take money from working people and give it to somebody whose value is so low?

I oppose price controls generally, but I've said for a long time that if we're going to impose controls on the price of labor (that's what the min wage is), let's do it the same as with agriculture price controls, usually termed 'price supports.' The price is allowed to float up or down according to the market, but if it goes below a certain point (call it the 'support price') the farmer gets a check from the taxpayer to make up the difference between the market price and support price.

The farmer facing a low market price for his goods is in the identical situation to the low skill worker facing a low market price for his labor. Can one of you minimum wage advocates out there explain why politicos have chose two different solutions for two identical problems?
