"She (the new mayor) said her first order of business will be to help clean up the city."
Looks like she already accomplished that without ever being sworn in.
Ha! Looks like she might have. I hope she does accomplish her goals. It seems the little town was having a problem with break ins lately and is pretty run down.
Says she wants to clean it up along with the fact former mayor was there for 37 years tells me corruption and they knew the gravy train was ENDING! I don't think it has ANYTHING to do with race..I bet if it had been ANYONE new they would have quit.
Exactly.. but they cite safety concerns. I guess they meant "their" safety from being caught with their hands in the cookie jar.
37 years is a long time for 2 terms.
7 cops for a sleepy rural town of only 700 people? City Attorney who handled "the books" also resigned? I agree with the cookie jar angle - it wasn't because she's black.
If they resigned because the new mayor is black then that is outrageous and truly shows what sorry people they are.
But if it is for other reasons, no problem. But I suspect it is the former, some people in small towns are like this. they think they can openly disrespect a black man in simply for and because they are black.

Well first of all, the new mayor is female. Second, I'm pretty much 100% confident that corruption is the reason for all of the resignations. Corruption is not "no problem". It is a serious issue just like racism.
It's hard to tell from the story but did the department heads and attorney turn in their resignations per change of administration protocol?
Our town attorney turns in his resignation after every election as do the Town Clerk, Treasurer and Public Works Director.
As a note, 7 officers is the minimum needed to provide 24 hour coverage.
