I suppose that's one factor that often gets overlooked in the great gun debate. What if local law enforcement simply refuses to enforce the laws? This particular sheriff has a lot of like-minded company around the US.

Exactly

There are not enough jails, not enough policemen, not enough courts to enforce a law not supported by the people. - Hubert H. Humphrey

Precisely. If the President and his administration get to pick and choose which laws they are willing to enforce ... well what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Holder and Obama set the bad example on this score. You might end up with all sorts of selective law enforcement across the country.

This is why the Constitution was written the way it was written: Congress makes the laws, the Executive Branch enforces them, the Judicial Branch strikes down any laws that are invalid. The Obama Administration is guilty of trying to do all three.

Good for him. I hope he accepts losing his job, health insurance, and pension over refusing to enforce something trivial such as expanded background checks for private sellers. It's a shame to lose your job over something that is a no brainer but he has that right.

Most sheriffs are elected locally. I'm betting he still would have a job.

I would imagine not enforcing a law would be a reason to be fired, sheriffs aren't above the law despite being locally elected.
