Abortion was wrong until the government said it was right.
Government wants to make all the moral laws that society lives by but religious doctrines get in the way.

So the obvious answer is get rid of the religions.
What does abortion have to do with this discussion?

Most of us non-religious types know right from wrong: simple stuff "...due unto others..." and "...The Golden Rule..." what is so insidious about that?

We both know you don't mean that. You're only saying it because long ago we discovered they've learned how to defeat our tinfoil countermeasures. We are all completely exposed.

From a religious standpoint abortion is wrong because it is murder.

The government though passed a law that tells us when life really begins so it's ok to have an abortion because it's not really "life" at that stage.

It makes sense
Being g@y doesn't tell you anything about that person's beliefs
Being an evangelist does (good and bad things)

Yep

I think the United States of America will have an openly Gay president at some point don't doubt it one bit, on the other hand and Evangelist president not chance in hell ain't gonna happen. Iceland has already had an openly Lesbian Prime Minister.

Exactly. The only people who like "Christian" zealots are other "Christian" zealots. Contrary to what most "Christians" think, most Americans do NOT want a theocracy.

I mean look at how our politicians lie and steal, that's a sin. You never see conservative Christians get up in arms about THAT.

OR the divorce rate in America, something Jesus spoke specifically about, and somehow that is up to interpretation.
That's because gays are an "easy" target for "Christians'" bigotry because they don't have to worry about stepping on toes like they would if they targeted liars or divorced people. How many openly gay "Christians" are there except for those poor tormented souls who claim they've changed their sexual preferences because of some homophobic preacher?

In Lexington, Kentucky we have an openly gay mayor (serving his second term)...He is a great Mayor, what does it matter whether he is straight or gay - it doesn't.

Most of our Forefathers were Christians, but I have been taught that America has always stood for freedom of Religion (and that includes all religions, not just the Christian ones)...we felt this way because so many people came to this country because they felt like they were persecuted for their religious beliefs where they came from and came here so that they could practice their religion in peace and in freedom...
Not so that they could cram their beliefs and ideologies down every one else's throats and try to force others to adhere to their moral codes...that is not freedom...and it's not the freedom of Religion our Country was originally based upon.

My guess.. Perhaps the church thinks that they are supposed to make sure that people get punished, rather than leaving it up to their God?
That's not right....punishment, if you are religious, should be left up to your God or Goddess.
