Here you are crying that KS is proposing a sales tax increase to 6.55%.
Meanwhile, Chicago's is at 9.25%.
Seems to me that your concern is fake.
You are comparing a city to a state, which is an apples to oranges comparison. Illinois' tax rate is 6.25. The additional taxes to bring it to 9.25 are county and city taxes added on. Go look at cities in KS for a better comparison and you'll find much higher local rates there, too.

The sales tax rate in Wichita, the largest city in Kansas will be 7.65% after the proposed increase. However, unlike most states including Illinois, Kansas charges the full rate on food, prescriptions and other essential items. The other poster was attempting to intentionally mislead people on the true level of taxation in Kansas.
But it doesn't really matter what the rates are, the reality is that the Kansas Republicans lead by Brownback have created a situation in which the poor and middle class will have their taxes raised in order to provide the wealthy with a zero income tax rate. No amount of spin can change that fact.
You mean the same as people in California who keep voting Democrat even when their state has had stagnant employment growth for thirty years and gone broke themselves? Most people put no thought into their votes. That goes for Republican or Democrat.
Time has left your talking point behind, I'm afraid.
Lol, you want to complain about a states "regressive" taxes you just don't want to compare them to anyone else.
No i don't. No need to. I am talking about the financial hit the poor and middle class are getting hit with out of this deal. Had ol' brownie not done all these stupid cuts the the little people wouldn't be taking the heat for poor govt. Comprende?

Since the argument is so much more complicated than even that (property taxes, how their state income tax is structured, fees instead of taxes and so on and so forth......) I chose a simple comparison.
The bottom line is that the only reason we are having this discussion is out of partisan axe grinding and concern over "regressive taxes" is just a bunch of BS.

Kansas revised its individual income tax system in 2013, going from three tax brackets to two and reducing the rates for both.
For single taxpayers, they are:
•2.7 percent on the first $15,000 of taxable income.
•4.8 percent on taxable income of $15,001 and more.
Weird, it doesn't look like the wealthy have a 0% income tax rate now does it?
