Chris Christie says if you have saved 4-5 million dollars at retirement and you are receiving 200k a year on your hard work, you should forgo your SS....for who? And for what reason?

http://www.msnbc.com/morning-joe

Is this guy on drugs or an insane enabler who wants to punish people who were smart with their money?

I don't want anyone touching my SS. That is my money, who cares if I "need" it or not. It is not my job to GIVE my money away because someone says I don't need it because I have enough. If people are not smart with their money and/or not hard working enough, nor live within their means allowing them to create a nest egg when they get old, too bad; there are consequences that THEY have to pay not me.....WTH?

Work hard and give all of your hard working benefits to the people who don't work hard or just sponge off of others.

The older I get, the more conservative I get on economic issues..... People are effing lazy and they deserve what they get!!

Edit: not including the truly mentally, physically, and emotionally disabled; the people who are born that way, not the ones who are created by bad parenting. What we should do with the latter is another discussion.

Pay in to SS all of one's life only to be denied so that it can be diverted to those who have less.

The GOP leaders are the real socialists!

SS is a tax. It is NOT your money. It ceased being under your control as soon as it was collected by the IRS. Today's SS is not the same as it was when it was passed in the 1930's. The program was challenged in the Supreme Court and the FDR administration claimed it was a "tax". They won so your contributions are no longer yours.

Nice to hear at least one politician admitting there is a problem with social security, so let the millionaires keep their SS. I would love to hear one politician propose reform, either increase pay in, cut benefits or increase the age, it will be bankrupt in a few years.

He did say increase the age by 2 years within the next twenty-five years.

Unless you own your own company or are independently wealthy, there are very few employment opportunities for people in their late 60's. This may be fine for white collar workers, but I don't see many 60 year old ditch diggers.

It's not the retirement benefit part of social security that is the main problem however....it's the medical piece.

So, his proposal is like putting new tires on a car that has transmission problems.

Additionally, you cannot make changes after the fact in fairness but have to announce them well ahead of time and by then the boomer bubble will already have moved through the system.

It is not a TAX. If it was a tax, then everyone would have to participate and pay. My brother doesn't pay that TAX. In California, he pays all of his money into Calpers with nothing going towards SS. How can that be if it was a TAX?

It's not a tax and you are right it's not my money, although it should be. I'm too busy for paying for every Tom, Dick, and Harry to be on disability.
