A lot of people on City-Data, and in America in general, are completely against welfare of all kinds, including for people with disabilities and dependent children whose parents are too poor.
What do you suggest be done with them? Throw them all in privatized jails? Let them beg on the street (but then again, you want to criminalize begging?) Force them to live on "reservations"?
I just don't see a conservative solution to poverty. You could just tell them to "go get a job", but in 2015 those jobs don't even exist! And people cannot survive on pennies an hour. It sounds to me like people who want to abolish welfare are basically asking for mass death and starvation, just like the Irish potato famine. I think there is a Malthusian agenda here.
Of course you think that, liberals always project their feelings on everyone else. Liberals are the ones constantly trying to FORCE people to do things and looking for violent solutions.
Liberals have such a bizarre and twisted view of the world. Conservative says "I don't want to pay for you" and a liberals hears "you want to kill them, you hate them, you want to force them into labor camps". Is it any wonder people think liberalism is a mental illness?
And conservatives are all for freedom except when it pertains to social issues and women. You guys use the term "mental illness" so casually. To use it to refer to those with different political views is very callous to those who truly suffer from this.
Anyone wanting to abolish our social programs hasn't got much of a heart. How could you watch the less fortunate beg for food? I know some of you think the churches would take care of them but I doubt it, they would be overwhelmed and there would be chaos everywhere. This may what some of you want. The purpose of the "welfare state" is to mollify those who the system cannot otherwise utilize.
There aren't even enough low wage jobs for everyone to have one, and they don't even pay enough to live on. Most of those on welfare have a low wage job anyway. And then a lot of those employed only have that job because of child care assistance.
All you showed is that after a decade of high illegal immigration (where's the republican immigration legilsation now that they have congress or when Bush Jr had executive control) a lot of birth's are on medicaid.
Illegal immigrants are only 3.5% of the population. There's no way they are responsible for the 45% of all U.S. births being paid for by Medicaid.
Percentage of Medicaid births for each race/ethnicity:
White: 33%
Black: 65%
American Indian or Alaskan Native: 65.1%
Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander: 50.7%
Hispanic: 61.4%
The demographic groups that disproportionately and overwhelmingly vote D are responsible for the very high percentage of births paid for by Medicaid in the U.S.
Some of the biggest leaches on government programs are the farmers...and they are almost all conservatives. Farmers get huge handouts from the government. They need to be kicked off the gravy train and if they can't make a decent income they need to learn new skills and get better paying jobs.
We have a fiat currency silly. But hey.... go tell those baby boomers they'll need to pay for their own healthcare and they need to cover their retirement. See what happens when you tell them they can't use young people's money.
