Because Progressives detest the military. They really couldn't care less apart from the PR issue and the ability to capitalize on the crisis.

Why did Boehner take a week to lower the Capitol Building flag?

Obama wasn't briefed on it until fairly recently.

Not all incidents cause the flag to be put at half staff. For example-the flags weren't at half staff following the recent church shooting. I suspect a white president would have, but if Obama had for this one the racists would have came out and made a farce of things.

This being a military one probably deserves it, but the specifics matter. Some things are cut and dried. The lack of information about the shooter and the causes probably slowed this one.

For example what if the shot marines had been shot by this kid because they did something to deserve it? Raped his sister for example?

I'd hesitate long enough to learn the facts personally. At a guess I suspect thats what may have caused the delay here.

Half-truths in the White House half-staff flag controversy

A president lowering the flag for fallen soldiers is not typical, otherwise it would always be at half staff, experts said.

In addition to Chattanooga, Obama also lowered the flags in response to other mass shootings of servicemen at the Washington Navy Yard in 2013 and Fort Hood, Texas, in 2009.

If it weren't for growing public criticism of him not doing it that flag would still be flying at full staff.

He only did it because of growing public outrage and Congress lowered their flag yesterday.

Congress lowered the flag yesterday at the capitol. They just returned to Congress yesterday and that was one of the first things they did.

Under fire for inaction, Obama orders flags lowered for Chattanooga victims - The Washington Post

President Obama, facing growing criticism from conservatives and some veterans, ordered all American flags on federal grounds to be lowered to half-staff for the remainder of the week to honor the five service members killed at a naval reserve center in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Man, people can invent a controversy just to be mad about something.

The flag isn't lowered every time something bad happens. Not even every time someone dies an unjust death. Not even every time a solider dies. You heard about this one, and since Obama's in office, he's 100% responsible for the flag not moving because you think it should.

A part of me says "we should never lower the flag for acts of terrorism"

I would hope if I were killed by a terrorist in some gruesome manner that the flag would NOT be lowered. Its letting those [bad words] win. Its changing our behavior because of them. Which is their goal.

Thank you for this post. I think people have forgotten why & when the flag should be lowered.
