Sure lets show Beyonce on stage performing and pretend that is Beyonce the person, then we can make her and Michelle Obama look bad.
Beyonce has every possible attribute that makes a person successful, so yes she is a role model. If you are a performer, look and learn. If you are a business person look at how she is successful in that part of her life, or as a wife and mother.
haters are gonna hate.
I get what you are saying. And I will say that Beyoncé has been very strategic with her career, I respect this. She has done well for herself. I imagine her parents were a good help/influence too. But where we disagree is that I cannot hold her up as a role model for my teen as I think she sells herself short to get attention and shock value. She is attractive, a good performer, and seems very sweet when she is being interviewed (albeit a bit uneducated sounding), but no need to act so trashy on stage and wear outfits that are contrary to the imagine she is trying to portray as a smart successful woman.
As the mom of an adult and a teen, I do not call someone who has been a mother for a minute, a successful mother. Sorry, but get a child thru their teen years and then let's talk about success. It's a piece of cake to have a baby, raise them to 1-2 years of age compared to raising a child for 15 - 20 years and helping them be successful adults.
The outfit in this thread not only looks tacky, but trashy. Does she really want her child to see this when she is old enough to understand?
To me, a good role model is Oprah. She has an amazing rags to riches story. She has tenacity, grit, and is a very intelligent woman. And a philanthropist. Then there is Tyra Banks, Soledad O'Brien, Cathy Hughes/CEO Radio One, and many more. We should be encouraging our young women to look outside of performers for their heroes....and to respect themselves. I don't see male performers having to degrade themselves with similar clothing to what some of these young women wear.
You are saying that if I go to Europe and do something bad, I would represent the US as a whole.
Yet, if a Muslim does something we are told that they do not represent their religion as a whole.
Why is that?
An no, I am not against Muslims. Have nothing against them.
No I didn't say "as a whole" just a representation of America. Any intelligent person should understand that a representation of a country or religion doesn't necessarily speak for the whole.
What data do you have to prove this If this were said about black women, it would as offensive and the person saying it would be called racist. It can't be had both ways.
The only reason people are attacking Beyonce (and, by extension, The First Lady of the United States) is because Bill O'Reilly constantly goes after Beyonce, and the lemmings respond in kind.
It's very easy to find out the FOX watchers, just watch them repeat the talking points.
Yes, because "Ivy league graduates" and their advice is the be all to end all.
And "black women from Chicago," well, any advice they could give is laughable.
Please, present your resume and accomplishments, so we can compare them to this "black woman from Chicago".
We'll be waiting.

Personal anecdote or not, it's called college. Especially when you're a scholarship athlete.
Who Michelle Obama holds up as a role model, and why, matters little to me. I don't consider many celebrity/performer types as what I, personally , would call such, but whatever. Having money and fame or being "rags to riches" does not a noble person make. Now, some characters, played by celebrities, I can give admirable traits to. What color those characters are matters little, to me, but, some may make distinctions. That's actually where this discussion swerves, to me. Many seem to think what people consider a noble, admirable person should be specific to their skin tone. For many, maybe it is, but, from where I'm sitting, its not.
That seems to be an undertone issue of this thread . Starting with Michelle Obama's taste in role models for her daughters, it just HAD to go into hard burn from there. I'm not going to second guess her motives for holding Beyonce Knowles up as a re model. Can't care, really. I don't, personally, hold Beyonce that highly, but, I reckon that matters little to them that do. (Sigh) Some would second guess my motives for feeling that way, and in this swirling mess it all becomes, quite, unfun, and less interesting.
Call the role model a person who's husband was involved in drug stories, person who looks like a porn-star sometimes at her shows... I bet we have a better one.
I hardly believe that Michelle wants her daughters to be like Beyonce...
This family (i mean Obama) never ceases to amaze me with their statements and actions...
Whatever one can say about George Bush, he certainly picked a lady for a wife.
Who certainly didn't seem to raise her daughters very well. Let's take a look at the difference between the daughters of George Bush and the daughters of President Obama. Guess which daughters show more class?
