My first thought when I read this story was this sounds incredibly disrespectful.

My second thought was, why do they have a white nationalist testifying before the committee in defense of the bill?

Quote:
Pennsylvania's only Latina legislator was interrupted and had her microphone turned off on Monday while she was arguing during a House committee hearing against a bill that would make English the official state language.

The exchange was first reported by Raging Chicken Press, a Pennsylvania blog that covers state lawmakers. The outlet posted a video of Rep. Leslie Acosta (D) doing what legislators do at committee hearings with their allotted time: making an argument that leads to a question for a witness. The day's witness, white nationalist Robert Vandervoot, was testifying before the committee in defense of the bill.

She should be cutoff. This country doesn't exist to cater to "her" people.

Meaning everything printed for official business and state agencies would be done in English and stop catering to the ones unwilling to learn it.

How does this bill conflict with the first amendment? I'm a huge supporter of the 1st but I can't figure out how it would conflict.

Kalifornia's offical State language is English as passed by proposition by the people back in the 1980's.

As long as all Puerto Ricans are US Citizens, English-Only laws should not exist.

Roughly half the states have English as the official language. I don't know why anyone would have a problem with this.

When you move to a country, are you moving there because you think it's a great country? If so, why wouldn't you want to learn the language? On the other hand, if you want to change it to be more like the country from where you came, why don't you just stay in the country from where you came? It's pretty simple. Anything else would be illogical. We were doing just fine before all this multilingual nonsense. Everything was in English, and new arrivals were happy to learn it. Learning another language is a wonderful thing, but it certainly shouldn't be forced on a culture that never asked for it.

As long as PR's are US Citizens they should learn and know American English.
