You may want to read about the struggles to reduce the work day to 8 hours and who opposed this decision. In this thread you can see the opposition to the shorter work week, this is typical if workoholic right wings.
Many americans dont work any dam hours, so even 6 hours a day, would be longer hours, would it not?
Just stop taking quotes out of context and embarassing yourself.
Self employed or salaried employees dont get overtime. I'd simply have to hire administrative staff to reduce peoples hours so I can hire more people, while paying them less to offset the administrative staff...
democratic utopia..
dont worry, everyone can work at the same salary as wal mart employees, welfare is there for you..
Wages in Sweden are much higher for those working at non-skilled jobs and everyone has the benefits and health care. If you got rid of the wealthy top 1% from that list, income per capita is higher in Sweden actually and keep in mind that rents are cheaper in Sweden than in the tri-state region. I have friends and family living in Sweden and I know the country very well. VAT is 25% but certain things such as food it is reduced to 12 or 13% and already included on the price tag. Most grocery food is cheaper in Sweden too, and you can still find bargain if you shop at H&M and other stores. Sweden has extremely low property taxes. Colleges is free, as is health care and day care is ultra cheap. This is where most of the money is spent by many Americans.
Most Swedes pay 30% income tax while people in the tri-state area may pay higher than that.
Actually many grocery store items are cheaper in Sweden than in America, and they have better lunch special deals than us. Entertainment similar prices (sometimes even cheaper) and owning an iphone is also cheaper in Sweden. Don't assume everything over there is more expensive. Yes, gas is expensive but their gas milage are better, they have better public transportation and many cars run on diesel.
If Sweden had the population of the US and was run by a boy who likes to golf, Sweden would be a huge mess too.
Why so much interest in immigrating to the US and NOT Sweden if it's such a great place to live?
The country only allows "so much" garbage to filter in?
Lets take NJ-The worst of the lot I suspect. Taxes paid by residents as a % of income is 12.2%. Somehow I doubt the average NJ resident pays a combined 50% rate. You're spouting nonsense.
Thats a 2009 % by the way. has something changed recently?

Please note-I SPECIFICALLY pointed out I was talking about federal rates there. Last I noticed that did not include state or property, so yes, I did in fact know that, and took pains to point it out. Apparently those efforts were in vain.
What you said was

Combined with what? Sales tax?
You're right, the average do not - in any state.
But since NJ is in the top 10 of the 2015 "richest states" per capita…..there are a lot who DO.
Where were you specifically talking about federal tax rates…because there is no 50% federal income tax bracket?
Seems to stop around my fed tax bracket - almost 40%
And then if you'd like to add in the additional NJ 8%+ state income? Well, now we're closer to 50 than we aren't.
And then property taxes?
We're over 50% of income being paid out to TAXES you can't avoid.

What was your original point, again?
You being misleading. I'm just not a fan of that, and respond factually. you basically pull numbers out of the air, move a tiny % of people to sound like a lot by saying "there are a lot"....etc
Thats my point.
