The opposite of that scenario would be dreaming about fiscally conservative Democrats who have some qualms regarding abortion on demand and might be more conservative in their social views. Oh wait. Those were the "Blue Dog Democrats" who have been basically forced from their party. The problem is there are very few moderates in the Democrat party as well. They are leaning far more left than say, J.F.K. ever did.

Ok so you're saying they don't exist. I never said they did. My question is would you have a problem with fiscally conservative, socially liberal democrats?

No. It would help this country if there were more liberals and conservatives that were honestly, fiscally responsible.

But they are still PERCEIVED as being a heck of alot closer to the center than we Republicans are.

You see, the United States is a centrist nation ... it is NOT a far right nation. The Democrats keep winning not because people like their liberal agenda but rather because they are seen as being closer to the center than we are.

Perception is key, and we Republicans are perceived as angry old people who want to punish people, who are stuck in the past, who are too religious, who hate minorities, etc. Seriously, take a look at the so called "autopsy report" from after the 2012 election.

Both parties are going a bit nuts ATM, for the most part. The majority of the American people are centrists, maybe with a slight lean one way or another. The fact that people like evangelical Ben Carson or socialist Bernie Sanders are getting a lot of attention is not good. One good thing about both frontrunners--Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton--is that they're somewhat moderate. Trump is unlike any other Republican candidate: he wants socialized health care, backs higher taxes for the right with low (and in some cases, nonexistent taxes) for the lower classes, and is fine letting Russia handle things in Syria so that we can focus on bringing back jobs from the 3rd World and China. That is NOT a GOP position from the GOP of modern times. Hillary is a hawk in terms of Iran and some other threats--that is NOT a Democratic position from the Democrats of modern times. We need both parties to come back more to the middle. If not, then Jim Webb should lead a Centrist Party and Donald Trump should lead the US Tory Party.
