I do believe that the US could go more the route of countries like Denmark, but not without much stricter immigration policies...you can't have a never ending influx of unskilled needy people in a system like that. This is something that most bleeding heart liberals can't grasp, they want their Democratic Socialism and 15 million illegal Central Amerians as well.

They're finding that Danish work ethic has been diminishing with more folks calling in sick on Fridays, Mondays......a clear sign of lengthening weekends. More sick leave. according to that piece, Average income is $46000, and then the government takes almost half of that in taxes.

I could not live on <$27000 after taxes.

In the US, if you had $46000, you would pay an effective ~16% tax.

No thanks. I'll decide what to do with the 25% tax difference.
That 25%, or $11500, will go into my pocket, not the government's.

I'd rather save the $11500 each year, build my own rainy day or vacation fund, and not rely on government assistance.

Income taxes are progressive throughout Scandinavia, just not as progressive as they are in the US. There is no equivelent of the Earned Income Tax Credit that rewards low income families with children as it does in the US, a tax advantage that's been meaningful for the past 30 years.

Someone making the equivelent of $55,000 USD in Denmark is taxed at the same rate as someone making $1 million USD.
