One in three users are showing signs of dependence or abuse
And then they celebrate by saying ""The prevalence of marijuana use disorder among marijuana users decreased significantly from 2001-2013," from 35.6 percent of users to 30.6."
Lets get this straight: 10 years ago you had 1000 users, 350 of then had marijuana related disorders, and today you have 2000 users and 600 people with disorders, and that's somehow a good thing? Number of people with disorders nearly doubled.
Marijuana study: Number of Americans toking up doubles in 10 years
A heck of a lot more Americans were toking up in 2012-13 than 10 years before -- and not for medical reasons, either -- according to a new study.
The percentage of American adults who had used marijuana within the last year was 9.5%, the study found. That compared to 4.1% in 2001-02.
With the increase in use has come an increase in the total number of what the study called "marijuana use disorders."
better than any alcohol! put the 2 together- dependency depends on the individual- some people just form a HABIT to anything - including cows in the kitchens- or shoes in the closet or guns on the mantle

Has there been a 100% increase in alcohol abuse in past 10 years?
This logic says that the prevalence of gun violence depends on the individual, not the gun, right?

Once again as Marijuana becomes more socially acceptable more people are admitting to using it, does that really mean that more people are using or that more people are finally coming out of the closet? As someone that lives in Colorado and knows several people that own and work at dispensaries, I know there are some new users, but I seriously doubt it doubled.
Another Reefer Madness thread I see... I'll be so happy when we finally end this silly war on weed, and don't have to listen to the damn hyperbole from prohibitionists and how the sky is falling over people smoking pot! How about we focus on other more dangerous substances like say...meth, or heroin which is becoming a huge problem and is actually killing people!
What about users lungs?
Wouldn't constant pot smoking hurt people's lungs? That's never talked about
Over time I'm sure there are issues with excessively smoking anything but marijuana doesn't have to be smoked. And the tobacco papers used to roll with are more of an issue than the marijuana itself.
It can be ingested or vaporized, served in tea, etc.
