Look at borders of countries from 1000 years ago. No one self identifies with those countries anymore generally in areas that no longer have those borders. Cultural changes take generations, but once they occur they can completely wipe out differences.

A superior culture that is full of free speech, and open discussion and acceptance is especially dangerous to a culture that does best in tightly controlled speech and lack of acceptance.
