Get the govt and its guns of the energy game and let 300 million consumers decide. If someone has a better idea the oil companies would not stand a chance against them.
Right now, oil is the best bang for the buck and that's what really matters.

All of Tesla's patent's can freely be researched and will have expired a long, long time ago.

The problem with the conspiracy theories about suppressed tech is quite simple. Suppose Exxon develops some new technology that is going to make oil obsolete, they can patent it and make some ridiculous amount of money licensing and selling it over the life of the patent. If they don't do that they are exposing themselves to someone else discovering it and patenting it. They lose both the money to be made on the new tech and their oil business.

I am all for developing alternative fuels. What I am not for is throwing cash out the window like Obama did with Solyndra. The problem with politicians is that they like to make promises they both can't keep and have no intention of keeping. Another problem is that politicians are also in the pockets of special interests. In other words their cronies are going to get rich on tax dollars without having to actually deliver.

Well modes of transport, electricity, plumbing, HVAC , television, appliances etc. were developed free of govt intervention ( initially) . The coal fired steam trains gave way to cleaner more efficient diesel electrics without any laws.
Why should a handful of people in DC decide our energy future? What people always look at is the end product of govt intervention, but don't see what might have been without it.
My money is on individuals with a profit motive to come up with solutions, not politicians funding second rate ideas or those of crony businesses that are not in the best intrests of consumers.
Where would the TESLA auto be without all the tax incentives and favoritism?

Looks like Sanders is as much of a fool as Obama. At least with Obama you can understand it-he wants to ensure we remain dependant on oil from Muslim countries.
Most of our oil is not imported. Most of our imported oil is not from Muslim countries.

This is a completely naive mentality.
The best technologies have been either kept secret or suppressed by force.
You should look into it.

I use to date a girl years ago that worked for a law firm that made its money working for car companies that would buy up patents for alternative fuel, then just lock away those patents so there was no competition with alternative fuel.

Falls right in there with the reality of the tooth fairy. Anyone that believe this is way beyond being a fool.
