Unless this professor has a contract wit the university, I don't see how they can stop him from resigning. It's good to see this professor standing up for what he believes also.
His resignation is a P.R. disaster for them. They cannot stop him from leaving of course. This weak response is all they have. Meanwhile, the wound continues to fester and ooze all kinds of vile crap.
The only way they can possibly stand this horror show down is to confront the left's political correctness agenda and its identity politics agenda, which it does not appear they have the courage or the commitment to do.
This really has gotten completely out of control and as long as the left's political correctness and identity politics agenda's rule their thinking, there will be literally no way to end or resolve this.
Although some disagreement on here, everyone is in agreement that the college is coddling the issue and the students and it's only a matter of time before this issue becomes unreportable. I don't recall any issue on here where we all agree in a central theme on a given topic.
How the university of Missouri is getting any national attention, besides embarassmemt, is bewildering. Maybe some grief counselors can be flown in or pallets of tissues.

Thank you for coming out to support us...now go away.
this 'safe space' was also a tactic at one large corporation, only with LGBTs. they were allowed to passoutliterature etc in a company where many lgbts folks worked for years. The activists then convinvred thecompany to hand out stickers for your office door that declare your office was a safe haven for LGBT. so if you diodn't have a sticker on your door, the implication was that your office was not a safe place for LGBT. The activists of the federalm protected species do more harmthan good and create enemies and division where none existed.
Again, here is a group that creates a situation where they portray the offended as victims, something less than who they want to be equal to.
Replay of the dark ages where witches were burned at the stake. blackliesmatter!
This whole thing is so frustrating to watch. Reality (racism)getting mixed with a huge dose of nonsense (lies and gossipand well intentioned idiots) and it causes an explosion that is now being copied by other students at other elite Universities. Not at lower or mid tier schools because nobody has time for this stuff. It's THE BIGGEST DEAL EVER today but like all the other BIGGEST DEAL EVERS it's will flash bright and burn itself out, making room for the next BIGGEST DEAL EVER. Really, write this down and then start writing down everything else that crops up like this over the next 12 months. It's FACINATING.
Anyway, I wish people with calmer heads would step up but I think most of them don't want to get involved out of self protection. Sometimes it's just too dangerous and we just have to let things run their course.
It might be excusable if it was only students passing on gossip and blowing things out of proportion on social media but it isn't. The most elite liberal media outlets in the United States are actively stirring the pot.
Yes. Civil discourse. Codes of conduct. If you want to remain on college campuses, you must show a modicum of respect to others. That's the rule. You won't get arrested for being an ***hole as it's not a crime, but you will be reprimanded by the school that you're attending. I'm sorry this hurts you so much.
The article points out that the hunger striker was so fed up with racism on campus that he was willing to die to force the chancellor to step down. Interestingly this black gentleman is in his eighth year at the most racially oppressive university in the nation.
I smell a baby Al Sharpton.
