How about less educational demands for employment? How many people could do their job just fine with a hs degree and on the job training? I could.
People talk about free college in Europe they don't mention that few are admitted to college, most learn trades

The U.S. graduation rate was ahead of Canada (35 percent), Germany (31 percent), Switzerland (31 percent), Spain (29 percent), Turkey (27 percent), Italy (26 percent), Chile (23 percent), Hungary (23 percent) and Mexico (22 percent).
Classes you will not use in your field. All degrees require electives that do nothing toward the student's chosen field. Why require three Algebra classes for someone wanting to teach history, for instance, or for Psychology or Sociology degrees? Two thirds of the classes nursing students are required to take, have no use in nursing.
I am presently taking college classes. Most of the classes I am required to take for a degree have no useful basis for most occupations.
Algebra is required in all academic fields... even history, psychology and sociology. How do you expect to carry out a research study without analyzing quantitative data? How do you analyze quantitative data without knowing Algebra?

I question your understanding of college...
College isn't for most occupations.
Very few people in those fields will do research. Most will teach. And having had all those classes in college, Algebra is not used in them.
Default on student loans, get drafted into the military for six years.
They would probably learn more valuable skills in the military than they did in college!
