What in the hell does THAT mean? Is this still the United States of America? We're now comfortable holding people in custody when we know damn well that we have no prosecutable evidence against them? This doesn't disturb most thinking Americans that we're openly admitting that we're no different than the despotic regimes that we assume we're so much better than?
It's a bit too late to worry about that, isn't it? Holding people without due process is what Gitmo is for.
OK, so Obama sends up a plan recently to transfer the Guantanamo detainees to other nations or other facilities. Basically, the Republicans aren't interested and rumour has it that the proposal is DOA.
OK...fine (not really, but remember...these are Republicans we're dealing with)
But that's not what troubles me.
It's this information in the link that gives me an apoplectic fit: 2 dozen detainees can't really be prosecuted, but they're too dangerous to release!

I wonder how long it will be before another nation, in its benevolence, invades the United States to bring democracy here and nation-build.
Many are already painfully aware that the President cares little about the constitution or the principles that made this nation great.
This is an hilarious statement considering that the GOP has decided that for Supreme Court nominations, the final 11 months of a Democratic president's term is no longer valid and he therefore is no longer allowed the rights granted him in the Constitution.
Do you hear yourself when you make stupid comments like this, or is your bias so strong it doesn't allow you to comprehend the discrepancy?
And we know about Gitmo. What about the holding camps they have in the ME that we didn't know about for a long time, like Camp Bucca ?
And then there's the torture we did to them while they were in our prisons in the ME ...Abu Ghraib.
You are right..the US is no better and no different than the terrorists we are chasing. We just go about it a different way and try to keep it under wraps.
You know - like the Unabomber and Jared from Subway.
Well - those guys got trials and suchlike.
