So, lets go back to Mr Snowden (the national hero), who told the public that the government was colleting data on phone records in order to monitor people talking to terrorists. Politicians, mostly from the GOP side were 'outraged' and demanded they stop the data collection that immediately. They got their wish through the courts, which ruled the program illegal, and took away a valuable anti-terror tool. So, here we are, with Faruuq and his wife talking to terrorists, and no one was able to track them down.
Would the phone data collection program been able to stop this? Maybe, maybe not, but I think the lesson is that you have to be careful what you ask for. We knew the treat was still there, so why did the politicians insist on shutting down the program?
