That's exactly the foremost point I get from a reading of the 2nd amendment. It is a check and balance against a totalitarian government.
Our government is headed in that direction. So it is staging various mass shootings and "terrorist attacks" to play on gullible people's emotions to render the 2nd amendment impotent.
