A string of studies, including one by B.C.'s Oil and Gas Commission, have not only implicated hydraulic fracturing but the related practice of pumping dirty wastewater deep underground as the cause of unprecedented swarms of earthquakes in Ohio, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, B.C. and even Alberta.

Earth quakes are caused by the movement of the plates which build up pressure. The pressure can do one of two things, be slowly released in the form of many smal earthquakes, many of which are not even felt or one large earth quake which causes lots of damage. If anything, many small earthquakes are better, thus if fracking causes a localized small release of energy then it is a good thing.
except when it could start a domino effect, and releases a big one..
I read a story, I think it was in Rolling Stone, where a family's water was flammable after fracking was done in their area. They had good drinking water before.

That energy is already built up, it will be released. The little evidence showing fracking causes release of energy has shown many small quakes which is good. Plus a bunch of evidence showing it isn't related at all as well.
How do you explain fracking taking off in dozens of states and no earthquakes occurring?
Do those states also have fault lines?
