It is amazing how in a matter of months Germany has bent to sharia. So much for it-would-never-happen-here. A "safe zone" for women is another form of putting women under a veil, ostensibly for their own protection. Instead of kicking out the thugs, German women have to cower in a corner in their own country.
If you look a little further, you'll see that this is only one solution that the authorities are trying to prevent another issue. They're also massively stepping up police presence at the carnival, improving police communication systems and embarking on a public education campaign in both German and Arabic to explain proper conduct at the carnival. If the safe zones were the only solution the authorities were offering, yes it would reek of sexism. In light of all the other changes that are being made, it seems like a prudent back-up plan to keep the public safe - not unlike the safe ride programs on many campuses in the US that are designed to keep women safe at night.

I knew you would come out with a spin like this. You are repeating what various Imams have said. If women don't cover themselves up they are asking for it. Let's go one step further. Safe zones are static and women obviously need to move around. How about "mobile" safe zones? We already have that. It is called hijab and burka.

Excuse me - when the hell did I say that?
